Duncan Hulme is Sydney’s premier Picture Restorer for Traditional and Old Master paintings.
A unique training in fine art restoration has been embraced by a family history established over 110 years and 4 generations.
Traditionally trained in London as an apprentice to his father and uncle, Duncan has over 39 years of practice and has evolved and developed the skills required to produce high quality restoration as a service for the art/antiques trade, connoisseurs, private collectors, and museums.
Over the years, Duncan has worked on paintings from the 16th century to the present, with particular interest in the major schools of the Dutch / Flemish 17th century, English 18th century Portraits and the French 19th century Barbizon and Impressionist schools, leading to 20th century Moderns.
This practical experience, teaches the restorer a unique understanding of classical and traditional painting techniques and methods. These are essential tools in the pursuit of restoring paintings back to the beauty and quality that the artist originally intended.
In order to develop these skills, the restorer requires a natural feeling for the arts.
At Duncan Hulme Fine Art Conservation, the emphasis is upon sensitivity, originality and control.
